Water Leaks

Most masonry materials are porous and will absorb large amounts of water. Defective mortar joints and bricks can increase water penetration and convey water to the interior of the chimney. Water, especially freezing water causes deterioration of brickwork. Dampers and glass doors rust out. Finally, deteriorated flue liners can collapse and clog the chimney resulting in smoke and carbon monoxide hazards.

Waterproofing your Chimney

Waterproofing is a preventive measure. When damage or deterioration (gaps, voids, cracks, missing mortar, etc... already exist in a masonry structure, the chimney should be repaired before the waterproofing agent is applied. The chimney exterior may also need to be cleaned before the waterproofing material is applied.
